Overview

Welcome to Silver Sands Hotel + Resort! To ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for all our guests, we have outlined our Terms and Conditions. These guidelines cover important information regarding reservations, cancellations, payment policies, and general hotel rules. By confirming a booking or staying at our property, you agree to abide by these terms. Please review them carefully, and feel free to contact us with any questions or for further clarification. Reservations:
  • We believe that children are our future, but you still have to be 21 years old and present to book a room.
  • A 50% deposit is required at time of booking and the remaining amount will be charged at the expiry of the free-cancellation time period.
  • Is it really you? A valid photo ID is required upon check-in.
  • All requests to reserve a room must include the first and last name of all adults occupying the room and a valid credit card for a guarantee of arrival and $50 security deposit.
  • Our room rates are always awesome, and they are subject to change.
  • All rooms are subject to a Michigan 6% sale tax, a 5% Michigan lodging tax, and a 2.9% credit processing fee.
  • Group trips are fun! When booking, keep maximum occupancy rules in mind- two people max for rooms with a single bed (Queen or King) and four people max for rooms with multiple beds. Got babies? We’ve got pack-and-plays available upon request, subject to availability.
  • After you have booked your stay with us, you can extend your stay (depending on availability) by simply letting us know before you arrive. 

If you are already staying with us and you would like to stay longer, please let us know at least 24 hours before your check- out date. We will do our best to accommodate your new plans and this can include relocating you to a similar room should this be necessary.

Your friends are our friends! However, friends and family not staying at the Silver Sands Resort must have Management Permission to be “on the property” at any time unless just picking up or dropping off a guest. Excessive loitering on grounds, entering rooms/cottages, and using facilities (including parking space) are examples of visitor violations. Guests found complicit in violating this policy run the risk of eviction, additional charges, and/or criminal prosecution subject to management discretion. so let's all be friends and make sure proper permissions are obtained.

Check In/Out:
  • We are a seasonal hotel! Opening May 1st and closing reservations October 31st. Our online booking is 24/7 though!
  • Check-in time: 3:00 p.m. We’ll be ready for you.
  • Check-out time: 11:00 a.m. Seize the day, friend!

Room keys will wait for you at 8774 W. Hazel street at the front desk, if checking in after hours we will make arrangements to get you your key with our 24/7 messaging app and ring doorbell. A room key is provided at check-in time after a security deposit of $50 has been secured. The cost of any keys needing replacement will be taken from the deposit in the amount of $25. During the check-in process, our receptionist will provide you with any information which may be required during your stay such as the location of near-by shops, good places where you can eat, sights you may like to see, places to go at night, and of course an overview of our awesome resort. Always ask our receptionist for anything that would make your stay more enjoyable and convenient. 

You can check-out any time up until 10 AM by local time. Later check-out times may be requested although we may not always be able to accommodate late changes and will depend on availability and on how busy we are.  At check-out time please drop keys into mailbox outside the main entrance or you can come in and say goodbye to our wonderful receptionist as you leave the key with them. Please note that a more detailed inspection of the room is usually made after the check-out time and we reserve the right to make charges for any damages or breakages found before the room/apartment is occupied again. Please be aware that bed linen and towels are NOT gifts and should remain in the hotel room. No items located in the room should be taken out of the room to places like the: pool, beach, or dunes. The security deposit should be released by your credit card dependent upon your bank’s policy and will reflect on your account within 10 business days. The security deposit/pre-authorization is not held by Silver Sands Resort and Hotel and we do NOT charge your credit card.  

Cancellation Policy:

Life happens. We get that. Please carefully read our cancellation policy as we are a seasonal hotel with limited availability. Rarely can we make any exceptions to this. Our receptionists are instructed to follow this policy and rules. So to save anything misunderstanding we would be grateful if you can observe the policy.

We take a deposit of 50% upon booking. The remaining balance (the full cost of the reservation and all taxes) will be charged and non-refundable upon the expiry of the free cancellation period, which is seasonal and outlined below. The entire balance of the reservation will be charged on this date and is non-refundable. 

  • May 1st to September 31st - 14 days before arrival
  • October 1st to April 30 - 3 days before arrival

Other things to keep in mind, 

  • If the guest arrives and decides to leave early, the nights not spent are non-refundable.
  • In case of a no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged and is non- refundable.
  • A change in the length or dates of your reservation may result in a rate change.

The only way in which we can acknowledge cancellation or alteration of the guest’s reservation; the guest must send a cancellation request stating the reservation number via email to the following address: Stay@SilverSandsMI.com.  All cancellations are confirmed via email immediately after the reservation has been cancelled. Room Policy:

We want you to have a great time when you are here. But if things get too crazy, we go by the old-school rule of ‘you break it, you buy it’ and property damages or missing items will be charged to your credit card at market value. Pre-existing damages or room issues must be reported to the front desk immediately after registration to avoid responsibility and potential charges. The hotel allows guests, to receive food deliveries at the property. We are not responsible for the food delivery, the contents, or the storage of it. Sing your heart out and have passionate conversation all day long, but from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the whole property goes into hush mode for what we like to call "quiet time" (or sleep time).

Restricted Items are NOT ALLOWED in rooms/cottages without management permission and include; bikes, AC units, car parts — including tires and doors, compressors, high demand electric appliances, combustibles, etc). If you need secured storage for items not allowed in hotel rooms/cottages, please ask at the front desk. 

Kitchen Room Policy:

If you are staying in one of our awesome rooms equipped with a kitchen, please practice safe cooking habits do not leave burners on unattended. Please do not cook with strong smelling ingredients. Lingering smells that require room closure and deep cleans will be charged a cleaning fee of up to $100.  If you do not have a room with a kitchen, please do not attempt to cook, if evidence of cooking is noted a fee of $100 will be charged. 

ADA Policy:


Silver Sands Hotel and Resort  is compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). We offer accessible rooms within the hotel. Please ensure requests reach us by placing it in the comments section of the online reservation form, or by calling us directly at (231) 873-3769 after the reservation has been made.

Parking Policy:


Vacations should be stress-free and for that reason, you get to park right in front of your room (or super close). By parking a vehicle at our facility, you (and your guests) are doing so on your own accord. The hotel does not take responsibility or accept liability for damage, accident or loss to your vehicle or personal property. But guess what? We’ve got state-of-the-art surveillance cameras watching over the parking lot so, should anything seem amiss, let us know, and we’ll check out the footage. And if you plan on leaving your car in our parking lot for a while, not problem, just let us know, as we reserve the right to tow vehicles. It's the Dunes, and we understand you may have a super awesome trailer with a super awesome off-road vehicle on it, we can accommodate this! However, please attempt to utilize Silver Lake Sand Dunes State Park authorized parking area if able as we are located downtown and parking is limited. Also, Motorized vehicles (including quads) are not allowed in yard areas at any time and are restricted to vehicle parking areas. This is a safety and liability issue, and guests found complicit in violating this policy run the risk of eviction with no refund and charges up to $500. (Yikes, we mean business!)

Watercraft Policy:

We have a beautiful beach on Silver Lake and welcome your watercraft during your stay. But, of course there are rules, watercraft must be registered with the front desk. Our docks are not anchored and are for loading and unloading passengers only, no tying to docks. Boats found unattended and tied to docks will be removed and charged a service fee for the return of the boat. Boat slips (for a small fee) or mooring anchors may be available to anchor watercraft, inquire at the front desk. Please enjoy the lake, dock, and beach responsibility and at your own risk. There is no lifeguard on duty at any time.

Smoking Policy:

Breathe easy. Silver Sands Hotel and Resort  is a non-smoking property. This applies to both traditional smoking methods and all electronic delivery systems, including vapes, vaporizers, vape pens, hookah pens, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes or e-cigs), e-pipes, and any variations of the foregoing regardless of the product’s name. Any smoking in the rooms or strong lingering smoking scents in rooms will result in a disappointed look and a $150 room cleaning fee.

Pet Policy:

Are we pet friendly? We are working on it, but currently we are NOT pet friendly. Our goal is for the 2025 season to have a pet safe area for small pets to do their business! Please stay tuned. 

Alcohol Policy:

Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly! However, if you cannot be responsible then there are rules. Excessive alcohol or drunkenness, or other inappropriate behavior, will not be tolerated and is at the discretion of the hotel management, violation of this policy may result in immediate eviction with no refund, or additional charges/deposits to ensure compliance.  

Guest Safety Policy:

As part of our commitment to guest safety, employees will not disclose the identity, room number or presence of a guest to anyone other than appropriate law enforcement. This includes the taking of or delivery of messages or indirect forwarding of phone calls. It is the responsibility of guests to communicate their presence and room number to any person they wish to receive calls or visits from. Safety cameras are used throughout the premises, and anyone on our property may be recorded. The hotel assumes no responsibility for any personal bodily injury incurred while using the resort facilities/amenities, where available. If you use the resort facilities/amenities, you do so at your own risk.

Fireworks are not allowed without the permission of Resort Management. Loud and disruptive and/or aerial fireworks are not allowed.

Bikes, skateboards, etc. must be walked when near building to avoid the risk of injury to self or others. 

Personal grills are allowed with restrictions; no grilling on decks, walkways, or picnic tables and must be a minimum of 10 ft from building structures. Grills must be returned to your vehicle when not in use, and not left on walkways, decks, or brought into rentals. If you need help with storing your grill, please ask management.

Campfire locations are regulated by the local fire marshall; privileges could be revoked if violated. Some guests also mistake these as trash barrels — but burning trash (like cans, bottles & tops, plastics/petroleum products, etc.) is a violation of our permits and could also result in negative consequences.
